Four nights of live music, hosted by Cardiff Concert Halls, will take place at Cardiff Castle over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The events are part of a Cardiff Council plan developed with the Cardiff Music Board, to support live music and place culture at the heart of the city’s recovery from Covid-19.

Three acts will perform each evening, and independent venues Clwb Ifor Bach, Porters, Fuel and The Moon, will organize the music, sell the tickets, retain all ticket revenue and pay the musicians involved, providing much-needed support to an industry that has been hit hard by the strict public health guidelines needed to control the spread of Covid-19.

From Friday August 27, will be a musical opening night programmed by Clwb Ifor Bach, with local bands Panic Shack, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and the Bug Club.

Porters will line up on Saturday night, featuring Yasmine & the Euphoria, Year of the Dog and more.

Fuel takes Sunday night, with their lineup including These Damn Crows, and more. The Moon will close the bank holiday weekend Monday with Afro Cluster, celebrating the launch of their new album, The Allergies (DJ set), Niques, DJ Trishna Jaikara, as well as host Prendy.

Tickets and more information will be available on each site’s websites or on social media starting today (Wednesday, July 28), including details of acts added to those listed above.

The “Live and Unlocked” sessions aim to give musicians a stage to perform and to provide a safe environment that inspires confidence in the audience to return to live events after 17 difficult months.

The events will offer both seating and standing places for concert goers. As a condition of entry, all participants will be required to present a negative lateral flow test (performed within the previous 24 hours). Photo ID and tracking and tracing information will also be required.

Huge challenges

Cardiff Council Chief and Cardiff Music Board Chairman Cllr Huw Thomas said: “Live music venues and musicians have faced enormous challenges throughout the pandemic. Even now, as the restrictions are relaxed, some challenges remain, but we hope that by hosting this series of events at the castle, we can support the industry and the people who work there, and most importantly, bring back some joy. in the city .

“The last 17 months have been a time when music was perhaps more needed than ever, so it was especially poignant not to be able to see it performed in public. I have already said that music is a national utility for the soul which requires an investment, but it is more than that, it is one of the things that makes life worth living.

“We want music and culture to be at the heart of Cardiff’s recovery from Covid-19 and I am delighted that we can now start to make it happen, with four nights of live music celebrating the talent and diversity of the music scene from Cardiff. “

Culture, Leisure and Sport Cabinet member Cllr Peter Bradbury added: “We have been waiting for the resumption of live music in Cardiff for a long time. Before the pandemic, we set a bold ambition for Cardiff to become an internationally recognized city of music. Now is the time to reset and start the hard work to make that ambition a reality. “

The comprehensive lineup reflects the diversity of the exciting music produced and performed in the city, with the aim of rekindling the love of live music in Cardiff.

It has been 17 long months since we last hosted a live event and the chance to promote great bands to an audience in such an iconic setting will be incredible.
