We all need something to look forward to in 2022 and music is always guaranteed to cheer us up.
Whatever your tastes, there is no doubt that there will be plenty of live shows to choose from as the music world gears up for a year of concerts and tours to make up for what we’ve all been missing out on for. the pandemic.
Despite spoilers ahead of Christmas, including the Covid-related cancellation of Gary Barlow’s December 18 date at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, hopes are for a musical year ahead and the North East is expected to host some of his highlights.

Here’s a selection of what to look forward to in 2022. There are plenty more of course – as well as festivals in the region – so watch this space.
One cancellation of note, however, is Brian Wilson’s Good Vibrations Greatest Hits tour which, already postponed once, was to bring the Co-founder of the Beach Boys at Sage Gateshead July 8. The hope is now to postpone a date to 2023.
Music performances in and around Newcastle in 2022
Ronan Keating – the Boyzone star turned solo artist spoke in an interview with Chroniclelive last year about her desire to be busy performing again. Now he’s gearing up for a return to the North East, to a venue that goes from Sage Gateshead to Town Hall where he is set to perform songs from the new album Twenty Twenty on January 17th.
Stormzy – Rapper grime’s postponed Heavy Is The Head tour is back and will stop at Utilita Arena on March 15.
Van Morrison – music legend Brown Eyed Girl has a date at Sage Gateshead on March 24.
little mix – after announcing in December that they would take a break, but would not separate, at the end of their Confetti tour, from the next double date from April 14 to 15 at the Utilita Arena with the girl group X Factor and Brit Award – also nominated for the 2022 Brit Awards, in the best group category – promises to be even more special.
Sam fender – Building on the success of his second album and his latest UK nominations, the North Shields hit maker will play a spring rendezvous during his 2022 arenas tour at Utilita Arena on April 5.
Noel Gallagher’s high flight Birds – a new event called Rock n Roll Circus, which mixes music and circus acts, will take place under a marquee on Newcastle Town Moor on June 9.
Elton john – the I’m Still Standing star, and Fender Buddy, fell in September, causing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road touring schedule to be postponed, but the good news for fans in the North East is that his Stadium of Light tour date is all set to go as planned on June 19.
Jack Savoretti – a second date in the northeast for the singer-songwriter, after a concert at Town Hall in March, is expected to see him perform Mowbray Park in Sunderland as part of the Lamplight Festival on August 6.

Blue – the boys will be back in town next fall and they clearly have a lot to celebrate over the past two decades. Their 20-year Heart & Soul Blue tour will stop at Utilita Arena on September 22.
Don mcclean – It has been 50 years since American Pie and its creator will return to Sage Gateshead on September 24 to celebrate this milestone.
